Nelson

The Sands Apartments are the perfect self contained accommodation situated across from Nelson's famous Tahunanui beach.

Across the road, Tahunanui Beach is the icon of summertime in Nelson.

There’s fun for all the family in the beach area, including a hydroslide, bumper boats, a miniature railway and Natureland Zoo.

Take a stroll along the waterfront towards the city and watch the sun set over the Arthur Ranges in the west or catch the racing yachts jostling for the start line in the Wednesday night racing over summer.

Head south towards the airport and you’ll find the World of WearableArt and Collectable Cars Museum with its incredible collection of WearableArt Awards winners alongside cars most of us only dream about owning.

In Nelson, the Saturday morning market at Montgomery Square is a must for all visitors and holiday makers. Here’s where locals buy their fresh produce if you want to eat at your self contained apartment overlooking Tahunanui Beach and there are plenty of arts and crafts to browse through.

Nelson has a well-deserved reputation for great food, with Hopgoods, in the city, and Bouterey’s in Richmond both finalists in the Cuisine Restaurant of the Year Awards for 2009. Enjoy fish and chips on the beach, a wide range of ethnic foods or haute cuisine – Nelson has it all.

The area produces excellent wines and has reputation for producing fabulous Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, with attention now turning to the region’s excellent Pinot Gris and other aromatics. All of the wineries in this area are family owned and most offer cellar door tastings. Pick up a copy of the Wineart brochure as your guide.

The best way to explore the Nelson area is to hop in the car and take a drive. Out on the Waimea Plains you’ll find fruit stalls, cafes, wineries and art studios.

Along the way you’ll find refreshing rivers to stop and take a dip in and the beaches throughout Tasman Bay offer safe swimming and boating.

The iSite visitor information centre is located on the corner of Trafalgar and Halifax Streets in the central city and offers information on everything the area has to offer.
